Good sport coaches provide leadership to individuals and their teams. However, sport coaches often have numerous responsibilities beyond that and beyond simply just making out a line-up and managing games. This is especially true at the higher levels of sport, especially at the high school level. Often these coaches have to coordinate travel plans, maintain fields, and deal with the media, parents, and leagues – just to name a few of the extra responsibilities. The point is that much of their time can be consumed by other activities beyond just coaching. This is one reason why having a player team captain is so important. A good team captain will provide leadership that can make a big impact for the team.

SHOULD A YOUNG ATHLETE PLAY MULTIPLE SPORTS? By Sue Veitch – SportsWorx Broward in Florida
I was recently reading a sports article where the subject was about whether or not a high school athlete should play multiple sports. When we were at the USSSA baseball tournament in Orlando recently, that question was also asked by some of the parents that visited our table.
The consensus among the university coaches that were asked this question in the article was that it is absolutely a good idea to participate in multiple sports, especially if you are a seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth grade student. Some of the reasons cited by these coaches were as follows; it gives a player the opportunity in his off season to further develop their understanding of the concepts of team play because the principals from these other team sports are exactly the same. The University of Southern California Football coach, Pete Carroll said “he wants guys that are so special athletically, and so competitive that they can compete in more than one sport”. Games v. Practice; by Ed Smith – SportsWorx Cincinnati
While working a baseball showcase in the Cincinnati area I had the opportunity to listen to an interesting presentation given by Coach Jim Zerilla, a former Division 1 baseball coach.
Coach Zerilla was doing a great job covering many of the aspects of the recruiting process. He touched upon the importance of grades, how to interview coaches, what to look for in a college baseball program and self evaluation to find the right program for the athlete.
